Bio

With a degree in English from Penn State in hand, I set out to become a writer. Six years post-grad, I was starting law school. But after a rather lengthy detour practicing law, I'm back to writing. Who needs Big Law paychecks when you can intern for nonprofit literary journals? Not this girl.

I write nonfiction essays, short fiction stories, and if I'm feeling especially capable, poetry.

To be a good writer, you have to be an avid reader. All the books say so. And it's a good thing because I'm addicted to books. Love buying them. My husband is not a reader and topping his list of marital peeves is the growing stack of books on my bedside table. As a compromise, I relocated the books and vowed to buy one book at a time. I need a 12-step program. Now I just buy books for my kids and pillage Northland Library. I tell myself I'm being a good literary citizen by supporting the library and local bookstore (Riverstone Books - best bookstore ever) which is part of the job.

On my reading list (and bedside table) are the following library books: Refusing Heaven by Jack Gilbert, The Truth About Celia by Kevin Brockmeier, An American Sunrise, by Joy Harjo, and The Devil in White City by Erik Larson. Between you and me, once I've read and returned them to Northland, there's a good chance I'll buy them from Riverstone. Sorry hubs!
